Along with the fact that listening to Mozart makes kids smarter and helps milked the cows, the scientists found one more applications of the great composer's music: after all, as it turns out, the microbes eating the waste, feel better and grow faster than the sound of "The Magic Flute." At the processing plant debris in Trenbrittsen (Germany) microbes "set" a variety of classical works, but that's what they had to taste the most. Anton Stookey, principal operator of the plant, says it's all about vibrations that penetrate everywhere - in water, debris and cells. "Vibrations create a certain resonance that stimulates the microbes and helps them function better." Stookey himself is not committed to classical music, and prefers rock 'n' roll. But Mozart was treated with great respect, because the music composer, helping germs to work better, it is profitable to plant $ 1,250 monthly. It turns out that the melody is not an invention of composers hired the company, and is a piece of written in 1902 by classical guitarist Francisco Tarrega guitar solo. In 1993, it decided to borrow the executive director of Nokia Anshi Vanjoki, who decided that it would be brilliant ringtone by default for a brand new Gladenkaya, weighing in at just over 200g Nokia 2120. And I was right. Indeed, along with numerous tunes for every musical taste, people continue to use this call.

Designed by Nick Ashton technology is based on the use of so-called. "Binaural beats" - when applied to the right ear the sound of one frequency, and the left - the frequency, which is only slightly different from the frequency of the sound is fed into the right ear. It is assumed that this is achieved by synchronization of brain waves that simulate drunkenness, love or sexual pleasure.

In 2010, i-Doser.com offered free track on YouTube, as a kind of drug network, and then let the market the other tracks on your home page. Says Ashton, in the year in more than one million people have bought these tracks. But soon the concerned parents and the authorities decided to "close the party ': one of the schools in the state of Oklahoma has gone so far as to ban students to bring their own music players, so it was not possible" potorchat "before lessons. However, it appears that the concerns of parents were in vain: despite the fact that some young people really "dragged" from ad-dozinga, no evidence that this case leads to addiction or to heavier drugs were found. For the greater part of people such tracks - nothing like just noise.

Then, the star turned to the only woman crew Sandy Magnus: "This song is specially for my daughter, Sandy, and all the women who send us into space, and for girls - our future scientists." Was it the know-how in the promotional techniques of modern show business and sincere support of the singer-feminists, but rather - and then, and more. But what makes the song move faster - a fact.

8. John Cage - As Slow As Possible: This song will only be completed after six centuries, with little

This is part of a larger study Cage on how music exists in time and space. He wrote a piece for organ, because its tube can be kept fit for thousands of years. A special machine delivers air continuously, and kept the weight on the pedals tool. The first chord of three notes, was initiated in 2003 and lasted one and a half years. Church, where there is a body that has decided to take on a mission to sing a song to the end.

7. Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up: turn every link in the disco '90s.

Powerful hit late 80's «Never Gonna Give You Up» from a talented young man with a surprisingly adult voice, Rick Astley once blew up Europe and once in the Guinness World Records, was so dovolochitsya until the mid-90s, if not sensational internet joke "rikrolling." For example, an employee sends you a letter to the post with a link to a blog or an article, you click - and surprise you to forward the video «Never Gonna Give You Up». One minute you and vpradu think you might be waiting for an article on health, but appears on the screen dancing in white jeans young man does not leave you any hope. This phenomenon appeared in 2008 forchane, but quickly spread across the Internet. During the three years video has been viewed 50 million times. Despite the fact that the song is an example of a good pop and decent vocals, though, Internet users have not forgiven him stalking the singer to return, and filled with numerous sarcastic Youtube "video disturbances." According to the same Rick, he was to do with it does not matter.

6. The Verve - Drugs Don't Work: the saddest song, as the science

It is one thing - just write a sad song, another - write so sad to give a reason scientists think about the fact that such sadness. The song «The Drugs Don't Work» (Rus "Drugs do not help") of The Verve, written in 1997 - about a dying father in the hospital, Richard Ashcroft's frontman. Physiologist at the University of Bristol (England) Harry Uitchell in 2006, studied the body's reaction to pop music. Among all the studied compositions «The Drugs Don't Work» has produced the most powerful effect, slowing the heartbeat and breath tested. "It acts as an emotional state of sadness," says Uitchell. However, the Foreign Language student, after hearing the song for the first time, although it acknowledges that it is really sad, but most likely will say that there is much pogrustnee. But this is only the first listen ...

5. The Beatles - Across The Universe: the first one (earth), a song heard by aliens

After four hundred years of Beatlemania could reach the farthest corners of our galaxy. In February 2008, NASA for the first time included the song The Beatles «Across The Universe» right in the open space through the transmitters of its communications network, in the hope that the sound reaches the ears (or other organs zvukochuvstvitelnyh) representatives of other civilizations. After four hundred years, the composition must reach the Pole Star. John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono song called broadcast milestone: "I see that this is the beginning of a new era in which we communicate with millions of planets."

4. Radiohead - Jigsaw Falling Into Place: song, smashing record labels

For more than 20 years, Radiohead defy the expectations of the audience and leading record companies, but what they made in 2007, was truly revolutionary. And it was, I remind you here that. All percentages of the soul shaking with fever on the growth of illegal downloads and a catastrophic drop in sales of official CDs. But what these musicians before your debits, credits? And as a truly creative people, they have non-standard and very effective move. His new album at a time «In Rainbows» (including the single hit «Jigsaw Falling Into Place»), provided the young people hungry ears audiophiles in general for "just". But - given the opportunity, if desired, to express, so to speak, thanks to the material, and pay as much as you do not mind - on the principle of street musicians. Ears were mostly appreciative! Pobesplatnichala only one third of the album has uploaded pobesplatnichala, while the remaining two - repaid, with an average of as many as eight dollars. A year later, it sold 3 million copies of the album. Above all, the band saved on brokers and distribution - for virtual sales do not require any cost. At the group simply did burst "green rain", and after a few years, Radiohead had many followers, and power record label continues to fall. So, the interest of the soul, learn to sell with the artists, because they have an ulterior motive 2 +2 = 5:)

3. R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts: most "milk yield" is a song

Maybe wake up early in the morning to the sad lingering song - not the best way to set the mood for the whole productive day, but all for cows is the case. British scientists have shown that under soprovodzhenie slow soft music, relax and better cows give an average of cup more milk than when they were milked without musical accompaniment. Of all the songs that scientists have tested the most "breast" was an old "Ode compassion" from the American rock band REM - «Everybody hurts», written in 1993.

2. CHER - Believe: hit, after which all realized that robots will replace the singers ...

In 1998, singer Cher and her producer have created a monster (in a good sense of the word) - a hit that broke 10 million copies and became one of the most financially successful show-business projects of all time. Under it all danced - and teenagers, and admirers of the singer Advanced Member, and in 2000 he was awarded the title of the best dance tracks. Not in the least detracting from the merits of talented pop diva Cher, still have to admit that behind it is something else: it was too unusual at the time sounded notes of those moving, and around the world echoed whisper - "it's a computer." Yes it's true. Produced by singer Mark Taylor handled the singer's natural voice with newfangled technology while Auto-Tune, fairly seasoned digital effects and transitions. What, in fact, beginning the practice. Residents of the CIS countries are more familiar with this phenomenon with the appearance of singer Glucose. Now, without the above-mentioned technologies can not do a good half of today's records of performers, all peoples of our time. As for musicians, photo models, stylists, politicians and metallurgists - here it is a pure one hundred percent. There is no doubt - and, perhaps even without the use of natural voice recorders.

1. Barney The Dinosaur - I Love You: song from which the bad guys are trembling knees

According to a study edition of U.S. magazine «Mental_floss» is this song is the strongest song of the last 25 years. For Americans, it is so important because it gave confidence that the "terrorists" will not win. In the internment camp at Guantanamo Bay was a special "disco-zone", where the investigators used the music for "knocking out" the details of the detainees. Of course, in such a playlist in the first lines are always heavy metal, and Christina Aguilera. But, according to The Guardian, the most demanded for these purposes song - a song from the cartoon dinosaur Barney and about his friends «I Love You». The investigators attribute this to the fact that the song sets so superficial, "plastic" mood, as if telling the prisoners that their silence in the sense just does not. With each new listening captives are becoming more aware that life is meaningless, and it's time to surrender. Reliability of this method is also confirmed by American parents.

So, this is the playlist of the 15 strongest tracks the past 25 years. And, although, of course, such a choice, and if true, then, mainly for English-speaking countries (and in particular - are not going to point the finger .. on the continent just east of the Kuril Islands), but at least as a cultural and educational tour a nostalgia for the 90th, listen to them all the same fun.

Dec 15, 2011 0 comments

Some great casting news out of nowhere. In the latest Sony Pictures announcement (via ComingSoon) that they are extending its first look deal with production company Escape Artists, it was mentioned that one of the projects they are currently working on is The Equalizer, an adaptation of the 80's TV series. We've heard of the project before, as it had Paul Haggis writing at one point. But the report now mentions that Denzel Washington is attached to star with Richard Wenk (16 Blocks, The Mechanic, Expendables 2) on the script, and Variety has backed it up with confirmed casting that he's attached. Denzel is The Equalizer!

The Equalizer was a CBS show from the 80's that followed Robert McCall, an agent with a mysterious past who once worked for a top-secret agency where he did some pretty horrible things. The gritty and violent series follows his exploits as he decides to right wrongs against the persecuted by settling scores with their antagonists and assorted miscreants. Originally, Russell Crowe was going to star, but now it looks like they've changed direction entirely and setup with Washington instead. It states in the initial press release: "The project is being developed with Denzel Washington in mind to star and Alex Siskind is partnered with Escape Artists to produce." No director is named yet, so we'll have to keep watching on how this develops.

Escape Artists have numerous other projects in the works in addition to The Equalizer, even though this is one of the key ones mentioned. The others include Sex Tape, with Jason Segel, a Masters of the Universe movie, How To Disappear Completely based on the Swedish film Vitus, Great Hope Springs and a comedy called I Want to _ Your Sister, written by Melissa Stack. We'll keep you updated on as much of this we can.

FOSS Patents: A German court has issued an injunction banning sales of Apple's iPhone and iPad in Germany. The ruling comes in a patent infringement case brought by Motorola, which alleged that Apple's smartphones and tablets violated its patent on “method for performing a countdown function during a mobile-originated transfer for a packet radio system.” The sales ban covers all iPhone and iPads, except the iPhone 4S, because it was released after Motorola filed its case.

Apple can appeal the case, modify its products so that they no longer violate the patent in question, or try to work out a licensing deal with Motorola. If the decision stands, Apple will also owe damages to Motorola. The ruling could also have implications for Apple sales throughout the EU.

2012 Ferrari 599 GTB HGTE 60F1

Dec 11, 2011 0 comments

Ferrari is saying goodbye to one of their amazing vehicles with one last special edition, and no, we’re not talking about the 2012 Ferrari 599XX Evolution. Fresh off of the announcement of the Evolution is another special edition, this time specifically for the 599 GTB. The new Ferrari 599 GTB HGTE 60F1 was built to celebrate the 60 years since Froilan Gonzalez and the 375 F1 gave the Scuderia its very first victory ever in the Formula World Championship in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. It is based on the powerful HGTE version and was created as part of the exclusive Tailor Made Programme.

The 599 GTB HGTE 60F1 will combine colors and materials inspired by the vehicles driven by Froilan Gonzalez on July 14, 1951 and Fernando Alonso on July 10, 2011. Customers will get to choose between three different liveries, but they will also be able to opt for a reduced body roll for a stiffer ride, sharper cornering, improved road-holding combined with superbly easy control, and an interior inspired by the two legendary vehicles.

Hit the jump to read more about the Ferrari 599 GTB HGTE 60F1.

The new Ferrari 599 GTB HGTE 60F1 will be produced in three different liveries for customers to choose from. The first is the 375 F1 Livery that uses the same red finish as Froilan Gonzalez’s 375 F1, combined with darker pastel tones. There is also a Ferrari 150° Italia Livery that combines the red livery used for Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari 150° Italia, with white on the lower part of the front bumpers, mudguards, bonnet, A-posts, and buttresses. There is also a tricolor on the spoiler. The last option is a Ferrari 150° Italia 2 Livery that brings back the red finish from Fernando Alonso’s ride, but only flashes white on the lower part of the bumpers. This livery also deletes the tricolor at the rear.

Regardless of the livery, the Ferrari 599 GTB HGTE 60F1 can be had with 20" diamond-finish forged wheel rims.
The interior for the new 599 GTB HGTE 60F1 was also inspired by the two legendary race cars. Europe models will get Sabelt seats, while the US will rock Recaro seating. Both versions will use an innovative technical material known as Superfabric that is usually used on Formula 1 cars. The seats are upholstered in black Alcantara and are combined with four-point safety harnesses offered in a combination of Red and Blue specified by FIA for the 2010-2011 Formula 1 Championship.

The rest of the interior will be highlighted by aluminum elements and Alutex trim on the dashboard. Both the Europe and US models will also feature the signatures of the two drivers, Froilan Gonzalez and Fernando Alonso, on the dashboard.

The only changes made for the special 599 GTB HGTE 60F1 were strictly exterior and interior, so engine specifications will still be standard. That means the special edition Ferrari will be powered by a 6.0 liter V12 engine producing 612 HP at 8500 rpm that sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds.

Prices

The prices for the special edition Ferrari 599 GTB HGTE 60F1 haven’t been announced just yet, but we can only imagine that it will be way out of our budget.

Competition

Since the only modifications done on the 599 GTB were aesthetic, the list of competitors for the standard model will hold true for this model as well. This list includes the Aston Martin V12 Vantage and the Audi R8 V10 GT, both of which are still less powerful than the 599. The Aston Martin model is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 producing 510 HP and the R8 is powered by a 5.2 FSI V10 that delivers 560 HP. The only thing these models have on the special edition is that both will probably be cheaper.

French Hope To Ban Prostitution By Punishing Clients

Dec 10, 2011 0 comments

Banning prostitution by cracking down on the people who buy sex is a resolutionto be debated by the French parliament, despite protests from France's sex workers' trade union, Strass.

Parties came together for the cross-party commission, and if a vote in the National Assembly proves the resolution popular, a bill will be drafted in January.

At the moment prostitution itself is only prosecuted when it disturbs public order, and a client only faces prosecution if they visit an under age prostitute or one that is considered "particularly vulnerable".

The new bill would punish any client who visits one of the estimated 20,000 prostitutes in France with a six-month prison sentence and a fine of 3,000 euros (£2,580; $4,000), according to Danielle Bousquet, the Socialist MP who is leading the plans to abolish prostitution.

Quoting figures that show legalising and regulating the selling of sex increases prostitution, the commission points to places like Sweden which decriminalises prostitutes themselves, while penalising those buying their wares.

It’s possible that the mood towards prostitutes in France is changing, following the DSK scandal, where it emerged that he had links to a call girl ring in Northern France.

Pro-abolition MP Guy Geoffroy said that buying sex disrespects humanity with less and less women choosing to become prostitues, and instead trafficked into it: "From now on prostitution is regarded from the point of view of violence against women and that has become unacceptable for everyone."

However anti abolitionists claim that punishing clients will reduce the number of people buying sex, forcing prostitutes to take more risks in a bid to make money.

"Maitresse Gilda", spokewoman for Strass told the Guardian:

"If you spark prohibition you play into the hands of the pimps and mafia networks," she said. "This law is just an excuse to clean up the streets and expel the Africans and east Europeans, among others, who work on them. It will push the women into hiding and therefore into more danger."

"Young Adult" is not women behaving badly, just real

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Nowhere is the old saying "beauty is only skin deep" less understood than in Hollywood where for years women have tried with sporadic success to overcome the notion that looks count for more than brains.

This past year two female-starring film comedies, "Bridesmaids" and "Bad Teacher," became smash hits based on the idea that women can behave badly and on Friday, a third, "Young Adult," hits theaters with a head-turning performance by Charlize Theron and written by Oscar winner Diablo Cody.

But Theron, Cody and director Jason Reitman are loathe to pigeonhole the film as just another funny story about a woman acting in impolite and socially incorrect ways. Instead, they see Theron's character, Mavis Gary, as a real-life person who is as flawed as anyone. And their take on Gary is winning praise from critics.

"I don't really see it as women behaving badly so much as multifaceted female characters," Theron said at a recent news conference. "You're actually seeing women in complicated, funny situations where you would normally see a man."

Theron sets out to prove that beauty may be skin deep, but ugly cuts to the bone in the role of hard-drinking Gary, a ghostwriter of young adult fiction who returns to her hometown to seduce her high school sweetheart -- never mind the fact that he is happily married and a new father.

The movie reunites Reitman and Cody who collaborated on the unlikely 2007 hit, "Juno," about an unconventional teenager who becomes pregnant and decides to keep the baby. She, of course, learns many life lessons during her nine-month pregnancy.

HIGH SCHOOL HAPPY DAYS?

Cody said the screenplay for "Young Adult" was inspired by a newspaper story she read in her hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota, where "Young Adult" is set. The story made her think about what might happen if an emotionally immature woman returns to the best time and place in her life -- high school.

"What if she thinks the only way she can reclaim that happiness is to go back and find the man who made her happy?" Cody wondered at the time.

Gary is not "behaving badly" -- as comedies "Bridesmaids" and "Bad Teacher" have been described in the media -- but simply chasing what everybody is, happiness.

Reitman characterized "women behaving badly" as a cheap term when it comes to describing "Young Adult" and said that he finds the female psyche more interesting than a man's.

""There's a long history of male characters (in movies) we love to hate, but there's actually very few female characters that we love to hate," Reitman said.

Once committed to the movie, he aggressively pursued Theron for the lead role of the passive aggressive Gary who spews hate with just about every word that comes from her mouth.

Critics, who for the most part have liked the film, know why. "In (Gary), it is her unintentional drive to destroy everything and anyone who comes close, and for this Theron uses her statuesque beauty as if it is just something else in life to be squandered," wrote Betsy Sharkey in the Los Angeles Times.

Theron initially passed on the role, but finally couldn't get the character Gary out of her head.

"It's obvious that she's delusional. But I didn't want to focus on whether she should do four-hours of therapy versus two hours," the actress said. She likened her character to "a beautiful car wreck" and said, "there's no cure for that."

In the movies, "women are usually either really good prostitutes or really good mothers. Maybe women are finally getting the chance to play more honest characters," Theron said. "We usually don't get to play bad hookers or bad mothers -- or anything in between."

iControlPad - Transforms Your Smartphone into Wireless Personal Gaming Gadget

Dec 7, 2011 0 comments

Today gamers do not have to sit at home to play their favorite video games. A lot of interesting games are now developed for smartphone. The latter, however, lack the control that gaming consoles have.

With this in mind, the British and German developers have come up with the iControlPad Bluetooth gaming controller. With its help gamers can make use of one directional pad, 4 action buttons, 2 analog gaming controls and Select and Start buttons. The rear of the device has left and right trigger buttons.

The device is compatible with nearly all smartphones. You simple have to attach your phone to the device and play. It also has a metal clamp to hold the handset securely over the controller (check out the image).

Initially the gadget was created as a clip-over, wired smartphone gaming controller but since then it has turned into a stand-alone wireless due to an incorporated Bluetooth module.

It would be interesting to note that the iControlPad can also be connected to almost any tablet computer and fully-grown gaming consoles.

The controller has been tested with several smartphones for compatibility. The list of handsets tested with the iControlPad includes: Blackberry Torch, Samsung's Galaxy2 and 2S, the iPhone, HTC's Desire HD and the LG Optimus S.

Besides, the built-in 1350mAh battery can not only power the device, but also charge a smartphone using a USB adapter. Here's also a flash chip that can be used for upgrades.

The gadget can be used as an alternative for a Bluetooth mouse, keyboard, and Human Interface Device (HID) joypad.

Traxxas X0-1 is the Bugatti Veyron of all RC race cars

Dec 5, 2011 0 comments

The Traxxas X0-1 can hit 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds and 0-100 mph in 4.92 seconds without even breaking a sweat. Sounds like the perfect recipe for a high-powered supercar, right?

The only caveat is that it’s not an actual supercar; it’s a remote-controlled race car from RC manufacturer, Traxxas. The little ball of lightning is so ridiculously insane that it even has a built-in speed monitor and RPM monitoring. Of course, all of the out-of-this-world characteristics of the X0-1 comes with a pretty hefty price - literally.

Set to go on sale on December 30, 2011 - makes for an awesome belated Christmas present! - the Traxxas X0-1 will come with an eye-popping price tag of $1,100.

Dreamy eyes and itchy hands looking to own the X-01 will have some extra convincing to do to prove to Santa Claus that they’ve been good boys and girls this year.

For our money, it’s going to be extremely difficult to part with over a thousand dollars for a remote-controlled car. But if we still had disposable income to play with, we’d be the first in line at the toy store to fetch a piece of this speed demon.

BMW 1M Coupe Doing Doughnuts

Dec 4, 2011 0 comments

Finally, someone is driving the BMW 1-Series M Coupe the way it is suppose to be driven. The only bad news is that all the action takes place in a parking mall and not at a major driving event, but it’s still a start.

Since the 1-Series M Coupe was launched, we’ve seen tons of testing shots and tuning kits that have highlighted the sports car’s attributes, but this may be the first time a guy has the guts to really push the car to extremes. Of course, the tires sure suffered during the process, but we still like the action.

Refresher: The BMW 1M Coupe uses a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine that delivers an impressive 335 HP at 5,900 rpm and 332 lb-ft of torque from 1,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. It sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, and top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

The school taught physicist thought of doing work

Dec 3, 2011 0 comments

In the U.S., a former school teacher of physics has developed a device that allows you to control the simulation model on a computer screen is actually the power of thought. According to the magazine TIME, the instrument registers the maximum concentration and the concentration of the brain of the operator, which responds to simulated and digital model.Nedavno one of the managers at a nuclear power in Ontario (OPG) has demonstrated that can give commands to a computer just for opening and closing valves, simulated on-screen . However, he did not touch the keyboard. When he mentally focused on opening the valve, the computer model is responsive to his command.

Thoughts operator broadcast unit, registering an increase and decrease in bioelectrical activity of the brain. The device BodyWave sized iPod is attached to the arm and with three sensors that are in contact with the skin fixes the level of neurotransmission through the central nervous system. In general, the brain generates four types of waves: delta (usually during sleep), theta (often observed in a dormant state and in dreams), alpha (awake but relaxed, for example, during the massage), and finally the beta wave - a key phase of the thought process, writes TIME.

By measuring the parameters of these waves, BodyWave can determine when the highest concentration, when, respectively, the person is ready to take an important decision.

The technology is complicated, but applications can be startling. What if you could wear a device that would suggest when the brain is the most concentrated, to take immediate decision: when to conclude a commercial transaction on the exchange, a stroke at golf or actuated valves for nuclear power plants.

BodyWave used not only for training in nuclear power plants in Ontario, but also in NASA, where research is being conducted on its application in the pilots of supersonic aircraft. Richard Childress Racing team in NASCAR series with BodyWave coached concentration. Mechanics have to literally take off for a second five clamping nuts. If there is no discipline, it's defeat in the race.

The technology is BodyWave electroencephalography (EEG), a study of brain electrical activity. It is based on a study of bioelectric waves generated by the brain.

BodyWave can be mounted on the arm or on any area of skin is sensitive to changes in the central nervous system. Sensors record electrical potentials arising in the brain and transmitted to the CNS. The concentration requires synchronous operation of the neurons. This timing gives a special character of the electric wave, the potential to be measured. When attention is scattered, broken timing and nature of the wave changes. BodyWave transmits this change with a simple receiver that is connected to the USB-port.

For the most part we are aware of when daydreaming or scattered. But not so acute that it can prevent the absurd scene - exit from the band on the road or household injury. The promise of technology on the basis of EEG is that it can warn you of negligence before you realize it yourself. Today, BodyWave - the only instrument for recording the EEG, which is simply attached to the skin without connecting wires and sensors to the head, said TIME. But he has a serious drawback: it can transmit data only on a computer monitor. On the device there is no light or sound indicator that will stop the "master" before he commits some gaffe.

The creator of Peter Freer instrument working on it. Freer - a former schoolteacher, he was 52 years. He taught physics at schools in North Carolina. In the classroom, he observed that many of his students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and in fact there are no problems with attention. Noticing that the student daydreaming, Freer asked him after the lesson to remember what was said in class. Student can tell you in detail about the bird outside the window, and how his neighbor was wearing, but the little I could remember the content of the lesson, perhaps that would say that the alternating current changes direction with a certain regularity. That is very attentive pupil, but the problem is to keep the attention and direct and fixed arbitrarily at specific sites.

Freer decided that it is possible to develop software that will allow measurement of attention in real time. In the 1980-1990-s NASA and other large organizations have investigated the EEG by means of special devices shlemoobraznyh with dozens of wires and sensors attached to the head of the subject.

What if a simple household appliance would be able to suggest to people in everyday life, when their attention is scattered? Very simple and very interesting idea. Physicist Freer understood that not necessarily have the sensors on the head to measure neural impulses, leather - excellent conductor of electricity, sensors on any part of it will be able to capture changes in the bioelectrical activity of the brain. In addition to the work of a school teacher, he joined a martial arts instructor and security guard at a restaurant. After accumulating money, Freer five years ago, has developed a prototype of the device.

One of the first people interested in his unit, was curator of education at OPG. Regardless of age, plant operators, working on the main console, constantly sent for training. Developed with the input Freer special sensors for operators to respond to peak increase in concentration when performing tasks on a computer screen. Turn off the valve only after reaching a maximum concentration recorded by the beta waves.

Freer now constructs a device for golfers. The player will wait until the light indicator on the instrument evidencing the total concentration before the stroke, said TIME. Another question, would this not be regarded as a contrivance.

NASA will launch the elevator into space

Dec 1, 2011 0 comments

The "space elevator" would be a tape, one end of which will join the Earth's surface, and the other will be in orbit in space (at an altitude of 100 000 km).

The space agency NASA and the Johnson Space Center with the nanotube want to build a "space elevator" to facilitate the exploration of outer space.

As you know, the nanotubes are characterized by high stiffness, and therefore the materials on their basis can drive most of today's aerokonstruktsionnih materials.

According to researchers, composites based on nanotubes will reduce the weight of modern spacecraft almost doubled.

The "space elevator" would be a tape, one end attached to the surface of the Earth and the other is in orbit in space (at an altitude of 100 000 km).

The gravitational attraction of the lower end of the tape is compensated by the force caused by the centripetal acceleration of the upper end. Thus tape is always in tension.

Changing the length of tape, you can reach different orbits. Space capsule containing a payload will move along the tape.

For the initial launch capsules require effort, but as soon as it approaches the end, its speed will increase because of the centripetal acceleration of the system.

At the final station, if necessary, the capsule will detach from the elevator and out into open space.

The rate of the capsule at the same time will be 11 km / sec. This speed is sufficient to begin the journey to Mars and other planets.

According to scientists, the lift capacity can reach 100 tons, which will build on the orbit in large colonies and space stations.

Lune of Eden - Demons wipe their tears

Korean studio Eden Entertainment worked on the creation of role ekshena Lune of Eden (formerly known as Last Online) for five years, and finally it came before the official announcement. Judging by the roller, we are waiting for a worthy competitor Blade & Soul, TERA, and other anticipated games of the fantasy themes. Although the greatest impact on the project has had a famous shooter Devil May Cry - the developers have borrowed and character design and style, and even the combat system, which combines cutting with a sword and pistol shooting.

The developers promise a bright fights, based on a system of "non-target", as in off-shooter: spectacular combos, finishing, evading enemy attacks. All these pieces are especially proud of the company, because of their implementation took two full years. Players also will be offered a PvP to suit every taste. Fans will be able to take advantage of battles chamber system of selection of matches quickly, but fans are waiting for massive battles sieges of castles. Knowing the bad reputation among Korean game western players, the studio noted that the grind for hours to the next level is not necessary - at least in the initial stages.

The game will be released in 2012. Usually, the eastern game long commute to the western market, but this time the English localization will not take long: the developers have already signed agreements with several Western publishers from USA and Europe. It would be nice if one of them was and the Russian company.

Some free games, free-to-play, jokingly referred to as pay-to-win - literally translated as "Pay for the victory." The German publisher Bigpoint, one of the major western manufacturers of free games, long famous for the fact that consciously profess their games in the system, selling for serious money playing advantage. Yes, and agitating for the rest of this, considering his point of view the only correct one. But every cloud has a silver lining.

It seems that experts from Bigpoint Donat found a really interesting variant of earnings, not too breaking the balance: the online game DarkOrbit is now possible to buy combat drone Zues. Very powerful, a rare and useful. That's just sad price tag - just EUR 1,000. And what do you think? For 4 days it was sold in 2000 drones. Publisher earned 2 million euros ($ 2.7 million), the rich have the right players in the economy thing, and the rest ... Well, for the rest, hopefully, it went quite smoothly - such advanced drones are too small to affect the balance of these games in general.

Today, former Cold Warriors George Shultz and Henry Kissinger support the eradication of nuclear weapons, because proliferation has shifted the balance of power and the United States is less safe in a world full of these weapons of mass destruction. Judging by the rapid adoption of drone technology, it won't take long before the balance will shift again, and we early adopters will be hoisted by our own petard. The precedent we set today by ignoring international law and taking out whomever we deem guilty will be one day used against us.

So you'd better get ready for a world in which it's not just people "out there" who must suffer from the omnipresent whir in the sky. We thought that we would always be the hand on the joystick. But even in video games, tables turn, and the hunter becomes the hunted. Perhaps a foreign country doesn't like your criticisms of its human rights record. Perhaps another country thinks you're a terrorist. Better watch your head. We will continue to develop technologies to keep ahead of the curve. But drones are a game changer. They herald a democratization of destruction.

And that soon-to-be-developed Clear Skies app won't protect us, any more than the schoolhouse desk protected earlier generations who got down on their hands and knees to escape the fire from above.

The London-based Bureau of Investigative Reporting disagrees. It has countedbetween 109 and 279 non-combatants killed by drones since May 2010 and as many as 780 civilians killed overall, including at least 175 children. “My personal meetings with three drone victims - one of whom lost an eye, one who lost two legs and an eye and a third who was killed three days after I met him -- suggest that the U.S. government claim is at the very least, wrong,” Bureau journalist Pratap Chatterjee told me over email. “In my recent trip to Pakistan, I met with some three dozen family members of drone victims and a dozen elders from Waziristan, who reject the U.S. claim that there have been no civilian casualties. It is possible that the U.S. government is misinformed, but it also possible that they are lying.”

The U.S. military is in charge of drone attacks in Afghanistan and elsewhere. The CIA war in Pakistan is in a different category. “The CIA is completely opaque, and no information is available from them even on the existence of the drone war in Pakistan, let alone civilian casualties,” Chatterjee continues. “By contrast, the Pentagon has briefed me and other reporters on how it conducts drone strikes in Afghanistan and Iraq and the legal check-offs necessary before a kill order is issued.”

The drone war in Pakistan is the greatest foreign policy outrage of the Obama administration, and yet it attracts virtually no criticism from Congress. "In Washington, the assumption that drone strikes in Pakistan are necessary to maintain regional security largely goes unchallenged," writes Foreign Policy In Focus contributor Nick Scott in Disaster Times Two in Pakistan. "However, it is not clear that the policy has actually reduced levels of militant violence or that the benefits outweigh the costs in terms of civilian casualties and damage to U.S. prestige in the region."

The drone war is finally making people in high places in Washington uncomfortable. "The U.S. government simply cannot arrogate the right to wage an endless, global war against anyone it deems a threat to national security," writesPaul Miller. "The prospect of such a war should trouble anyone who has the least acquaintance with history or political philosophy." Miller, who was responsible for Afghanistan policy on the National Security council from 2007 to 2009, believes in drones and their efficacy. He's simply concerned that the administration has committed itself to a war without limits — what used to be called the "global war on terrorism," a phrase the Obama administration has retired rhetorically but continued in practice.

Over the summer, the debate over drones inside the Obama administration led to specific policy changes, in part because, as the Wall Street Journal has reported, “Many officials at the Pentagon and State Department privately argued the CIA pays too little attention to the diplomatic costs of air strikes that kill large groups of low-level fighters.” As a result, “The State Department won greater sway in strike decisions; Pakistani leaders got advance notice about more operations; and the CIA agreed to suspend operations when Pakistani officials visit the United States.”

These changes, of course, don’t remove the CIA from the assassination business or establish a definitive end date for the drone war. But the logic of drone technology – and its rapid proliferation – will soon prompt a more radical rethink. After all, the Pentagon wanted the United States to abide by the Geneva Conventions not because of a sudden conversion to human rights advocacy, but because of a fear of what other countries might do to U.S. soldiers. And U.S. officials eventually came to understand the usefulness of arms control not out of a commitment to world peace, but because the Soviet Union had acquired a sizable and quite dangerous arsenal of its own.

Can Killer Drones Be Turned on America? 50 Countries Are Trying to Get Their Hands on Military Drone Technology -- What Will They Do With It?
China, Iran and even non-state actors are buying or developing drone systems.

Someday soon, you'll be checking your new Clear Skies app as a routine part of your preparations to go out for the evening. First, you'll look at your smart gizmo to read your latest email to make sure there hasn't been any change in plans. A quick glance at Facebook lets you see who’ll be joining your group of friends at the bar. Weather and traffic apps inform you of what to wear and what route to take. Twitter will tell you about any major news developments you should be retweeting to your tweeps to prime the conversational pump over drinks.

And your new Clear Skies app will let you know if any unmanned drones are hovering 12 miles up in the stratosphere with your head in their sights.

Sound like science fiction? Isn't drone surveillance and remote kills a problem just for people in the undeveloped regions of the world where life is cheap, collateral damage a daily hazard, and violations of national sovereignty the norm rather than the exception?

No doubt, people in the United States felt the same way about nuclear weapons during that brief period after 1945 when only one country in the world possessed the explosive new technology. Then, on August 29, 1949, the Soviet Union tested its first atomic bomb, and Americans no longer felt quite so confident. Indeed, the United States began to experience a pervasive nuclear dread, with children practicing "duck and cover" in the classroom, parents digging out bomb shelters in the backyard, and the thought of fiery apocalypse never far from the thoughts of a bewildered and terrified populace.

Today, the United States maintains a near monopoly on military drone technology, with only Israel and Britain also deploying these systems. But the landscape is rapidly changing. As David Cortright at the University of Notre Damepoints out, more than 50 countries are developing or buying drone systems, including China and Iran, and even non-state actors want in on the business. The United States is now using drones to patrol borders and collect information about Mexican narcotraffickers. U.S. law enforcement agencies are also eager to use the technology against criminals on U.S. soil, with Texas sheriffs leading the way. Unmanned drones are already used in Japan, Australia, and other countries for such civilian activities as crop dusting and lifeguarding.

Soon, the skies will be very crowded indeed. And the sound of drones that have become part of everyday life in "areas of concern" will someday become part of everyone's life, as ubiquitously intrusive as flat-screen TVs and annoying ringtones. Perhaps these unmanned aerial vehicles will simply pick you out of a crowd so that the police department can hit you up for unpaid parking tickets or your spouse's lawyer can verify adultery and grounds for divorce. But that assumes that drones will be seamlessly integrated into the fabric of legal and social norms, a technology no different from tasers or the Police National Computer.

But what's happening today in Pakistan is beyond the law. It's not even subject to the rules of war. The drone wars that the Obama administration has inherited from the Bush years – and expanded dramatically – are conducted by the CIA. The spy agency doesn't need to abide by the Geneva Conventions or acquire congressional approval for its actions. It doesn't bother with niceties such as national sovereignty. And, in contrast to other agencies that only dabble in falsehood, breaking the law and not telling the truth are integral to the operations of the CIA.

Here’s but one example. Back in June, Obama's top counterterrorism advisor John Brennan announced that drone strikes haven't resulted in any civilian casualties over the past year. “There hasn’t been a single collateral death because of the exceptional proficiency, [the] precision of the capabilities we’ve been able to develop,” he said. That's more than 600 militants killed since May 2010 and not a single noncombatant among them.

The Japanese invented the UFO

Unmanned flying machines that build engineers in many countries, mostly similar to each other. Most often, they are miniature aircraft, sometimes - bite-size helicopters, in rare cases resemble birds or insects.

But it is necessary for developers to move away from patterns, the light appears as something quite unusual.

Engineers from the Japanese Ministry of Defence presented at a specially convened press conference, spherical drone. It is a delicate ball of plastic with a diameter 42 cm. The device is able to take off vertically, move very quickly in the air and fine maneuvers.

Moreover, even after encountering an obstruction, the ball quickly restores the orientation in space and continues to move. Interestingly, when such mobility within the drone is set only one propeller, and the strong "edges" of the ball - turning handlebars, guides the flow of air in the right direction.

Video, available on the network, demonstrates an impressive flight indoors over the heads of journalists. In addition, the flying ball can move along the ground like a tumbleweed, while fixing the surroundings built-in camera and transferring the image to the operator. From the technical details it is reported that the aircraft weight 350 grams, the flight time - 8 minutes, speed - 60 km per hour, and the cost of production - $ 1,400.

Dry technical data, unfortunately, do not look too impressive, as opposed to video with a demonstration flight. The ball resembles a UFO, when laying the steep turns and still hangs in the air. From this prototype can get a good scout, assistant to the rescuers or reportage camera. The staff of our editorial board has once again convinced that the future, drawn science fiction, is almost here.
